MANOS Makes a Difference....You Make a Difference!

 

“…Many of the things we need can wait; the child cannot...”                                                   ~Gabriela Mistral, Nobel Laureate   Dear Community Partner: Partners in Learning, Inc.-MANOS, an early education program for English-language learning parents and their children ages two to five years, is in danger of closing its doors.  In December 2008, decreased state funding resulted in fewer services to support our two and three year old children. Closing would be a tremendous loss for our children, their families and our entire community MANOS connects families with the community’s schools, jobs, English language, and urban life in partnership with the Syracuse City School District.    MANOS Facts 100% of MANOS children entered kindergarten in 2007 functioning at or above appropriate developmental levels.  (SCSD Outcome Reports) For nineteen years MANOS has ensured that children enter school better prepared to learn. The annual cost per child is $5,145 for a full-day program including transportation. MANOS hourly cost is $3.50 per child.  For every $1 invested in early childhood education, taxpayers save up to $17 in future costs of remedial education programs, teen pregnancy, juvenile delinquency, welfare, and unemployment costs.
